So today most of us headed off to
town. We crossed the road at the entrance of the university. We waited for the
traffic light to turn red then we all dashed across the road. Apparently there’s
no structure for the bus stop. It’s just an open area were the bus stops but it’s
considered a bus stop. We squeezed into the bus when it arrived and I now think
that the squeezing on Singapore buses are nothing compared to what we experienced
today. There were at least 5 shopping malls in that one area!!! It was like a
shopper’s paradise. Some international brands I recognized were McDonalds,
Starbucks, Uniqlo, H&M, Cache Cache, Baleno and Giordano. We decided to
head over to McDonalds first as we were craving for it and some of us ate
lunch. I had a grilled chicken burger meal and I think they put very little salt
for their fries and the burger had a hint of spicy and the Coke also tasted
different. After that we headed off to look around and window shop. It was
quite interesting cause they are quite modernized and have almost everything
that we have back at home but at a cheaper price. They even have an ice skating
rink there. An interesting thing I noticed today was that in the public toilets
the people don’t queue. They just stand in front of the cubicle that they want
to go in and wait for the person to come in unlike back home where we queue in
a single file and take turns, waiting one by one. In the buses, the have a similar
card system to our EZ-Link card system back at home where they tap the card
when they enter and tap when they exit and if you’re paying by cash you just
slip the money into a box. Even if you put in the wrong amount the bus driver
would not know but we all had integrity and put in the correct amount of RMB 3
and they also don’t have a bell on the bus so if your bus is approaching your
stop you just yell to the driver that you want to get off like what we observed
a few locals do. I think since we know the way most of us will be heading back to town soon. I also had my first glass bottle drink here today in Wuhan!!
Woo hoo!!! It was a drink of Pepsi.
