Off to the Coke factory today!! After lunch, we headed to the Coke factory located about an hour away from our school. So apparently the Chinese name for Coke is pronounced:
Ke Ko Ke La. So when we got there we were first shown a video, in Chinese of course and I couldn't understand a thing. Looking around the room where the video was being played, I realised that Coca Cola actually manufactures 4 different types of drinks: Coca Cola, Sprite, Minute Maid and Fanta. There were also merchandise such as metal Coca Cola bottles, Sprite umbrellas and Fanta bags. Outside this room there was a large display of recycled bottles and a display of pins of all the countries that sell Coca Cola beverages. Singapore was one of them of course!!! We were then taken to the viewing gallery to see the factory below. First they mixture the concoctions, then they purify it. While this is happening, on the other side of the factory, they glass bottles and given a wash and then checked for defects. The rejected bottles are the isolated and a worker picks them up. I think the worker who stacks the rejected bottle is getting paid to be bored cause all he does is wait for the bottles to come to him and he stacks it in a crate. The bottles are then filled and capped then labelled and packaged to be sold off. Then we went to a museum like place where all the Coca Cola artifacts were stored. It was so cool seeing stuff like Coca Cola Barbie dolls, Coca Cola trucks, Coca Cola tins and different Coca Cola cans made for different occasions. After the tour was over, I think all of us were anticipating to get free Coke but the irony of the situation was that they didn't have enough Coke to go around for all of us and the factory where they make it was just below.
