It’s only day 4 and I feel like I’ve
been in Wuhan forever!!! But before I start anything… HAPPY BIRTHDAY DR
SUJIT!!!!! :D We decided that we would
surprise him at midnight so we bought him a cake and a book and made everyone
sign it. We sent Ms Mikia to wake him up saying that some of the guys had a
question about the water supply. Then as soon as he came out we all rushed in
his apartment and the guys caked his face. He literally got a cake mask!!! I
think the guys better watch out these next few days.
Anyways, we started late today so we
decided to head out around 11am before class started to have lunch and explore
the campus. In the back alley next to our dormitory building, there was a lady hand washing her clothes. Such a rare sight for us nowadays in the bustling city of Singapore.Oh and we have to be careful wherever we walk cause pavements are roads and roads are pavements. On our way there, we passed through the Foreign Language School and
there was a big board wishing us a Happy Female’s Day. I never knew there was
such a celebration but since they left us Post-Its for us to pen our wishes we
decided to write our well wishes.
We had lunch at the only Halal stall
we could find so far on campus. I ordered chicken fried rice but it was
horrible!!! They cooked it with an excessive amount of baking soda and it
tasted awful!!!>< When I first put
it in my mouth, it tasted minty then my tongue started going all numb and
started feeling uncomfortable and the more I ate it the more bitter it got so I
gave up after a while. There’s a large open field in between the stall and the
library so we went to a provision shop and bought some snacks and drinks and
headed to have a picnic at the field. I bought a yoghurt drink and milk drink
to try out. At the edge of the field, there was a few pair of boots, tiny ones,
drying. Priscilla and Nazhifah bought ice cream and when they opened the packet
turned out the ice creams here have ‘plates’ inside the packaging that contains
the ice cream compare to Singapore where there’s no ‘plates’. The yoghurt drink
was really tasty and the milk drink was sweet and tasted like a mixture of tea
and evaporated milk with a ratio of 1:10. I could taste more of the evaporated
milk but it was really nice. While we were resting at the field, there was a
really chubby child of one of the shop owners who came walking towards the
field. Many of the young children here have really rosy red cheeks. She was
really cute I swear!!!
We then headed of for lecture where
Ms Mikia taught us about Forensic Odontology, Forensic Anthropology and
Forensic Entomology. Odontology is the study of how teeth play a role in a
crime scene to identify the victim if they are beyond recognition or for bite
mark analysis if the murderer bit the victim. Anthropology is the utilization
of bones to identify a victim whom is beyond recognition and Forensic
Entomology is the use of insects to identify the amount of time the body has
been exposed. After class, Ms Mikia
decided that we would play a game called ‘Murderer’. We played it at a sloping
field within our tutorial classes and it was really exciting and helped us bond
with our classmates more. The field is really nice as it has this vibe that makes you just wanna stay there forever and enjoy the cooling weather. Speaking of the weather, the weather here is warmer than what it was when we first arrived but there's still a cooling breeze.
For dinner, I had Chi Rou Dao Xiao Mian meaning knive shave noodles with chicken. Most of the noodles here are made by hand. Another custom I noticed here is that whenever they served noodles they only serve it with chopsticks and not with a spoon compared to Singapore were they serve noodles with chopsticks and spoon so it was quite difficult for us to use the chopsticks alone and eat the noodles. The locals here also like to just randomly spit wherever they want which we are quite shocked at since spitting is illegal in Singapore. When we got home we decided to wash our laundry and it was so funny watching Nazhifah and Tricia impressed with the washing machine as they have never done their own laundry. I guess it was a new experience for them.

If you can see, the edges of the noodles are very rough since they are handmade. |
